.iorm.sf/access events in ESXi 6.0 host syslogs (across clusters and storage arrays)

$

I noticed that the events below appear in the syslog of our ESXi 6.0 hosts frequently.  Our hosts have been connected to NFS datastores for a long time, and SIOC is not (and unfortunately cannot) be enabled at this time.  Seeing these on hosts across clusters that are attached to different storage arrays.  No constant storage issues happening in our environment.  Are these normal?  Just starting to use Log Insight, so it's possible these events have been there all along.

sdrsInjector: open /vmfs/volumes//datastorename/.iorm.sf/access(0x241, 0x0) failed: Nosuchfileordirectory

storageRM: open /vmfs/volumes//datastorename/.iorm.sf/access(0x241, 0x0) failed: Nosuchfileordirectory

Thats what I ended up doing.  Could cause an issue if people don't update that and they use the deviceInfo.summary in a query.later on.  Thanks

I did not add the registry key as it all ready existed. it was however set to 0 - so i changed it to 1 and rebooted.

I dont feel that anything changed, everything is still running like stuck in glue on the server.

can it be something with the version of my VMWARE? should i attempt to upgrade it to lastest build?

But the setting to be changed is such as Network Connected (Y/N). And for vmware workstation the operation is ok.

Migrated 6.2 to 7.2 and vRO stub workflows don't work

Is there anything I'm missing that would cause my stub workflows not to work?  My endpoints are all configured.  I can browse my vRo server in XaaS and I can even call an event broker workflow.  The Event broker workflow failed since I don't have any workflows setup to use the new payloads yet.

Logs show this error:

Workflow Complete:  1017187 - Failed: Error executing vRealize Orchestrator workflow: TypeError: Cannot read property "hostId" from null (Workflow:Prepare Workflow run / Get host (item4)#1).

I'm not even seeing it hit my orchestrator server, there is no failure of the workflow.

Hi stacycarter ,

I don't think it's an issue if SIOC is disabled (it's pretty normal ) because .iorm.sf file has been created by SIOC. it can't access because there is no file.

sdrsinjector.log file is vSphere Storage DRS  log which shows this message when DRS takes place and try to use SIOC file for placing of host/datastore recommendation.

SIOC log file is (storagerm.log) .so storagerm will show this message when it tries to use this place for datastore recommendation or any other task. (obvious).

So unless my research is wrong IDM is additional purchased product.

I am sorry, but I am  going  to be blunt here. This is the first time I have been extremely disappointed in LogInsight Product since it's  conception. This seems like nothing more then then a blatant move to force the purchase of additional VMWare Products(Especially with no vCenter SSO consideration). When this change was discuss internally; was your VSPP license holders considered? We leverage the bundle deal to add extra wins on top of the product, and for the great pricing. That seems to go out the window if IDM will be required.

Sure you want to get rid of integrated AD in the product that fine, but for the only solution to be IDM is unacceptable in my eyes. Maybe I being a little dramatic, but as large enterprise and us incorporating all our companies under a single central stack. This effects how we deploy and if we should still deploy with loginsight.

sorry for the tone but, i guess I am "kinda" confused by this move.

Unless I'm missing something new, although you may can store VMware Tools on a Content Library, you will not be able to mount that to virtual machines. But, you can follow the approach of create a central shared repository for VMware Tools on a NFS share and then change the advanced setting UserVars.ProductLockerLocation to the location of the shared storage.

As a follow up for anyone else that ends up in this spot:  the update to Fusion 8.5 is working perfectly. Well worth the upgrade cost. Thanks again wila

Hi UEMdev

I did some more troubleshooting and discovered that the reason for the application not to start is that the "Programs Menu" folder is redirected to a file share via UEM (see below). If I disable the redirection the application starts upon logon as expected. Is there a way to keep the redirection but still be able to start the application upon logon?

To add to what Blue says

Note that if you format to FAT32 you won't be able to create a single large virtual disk larger than 4GB and will have to split the files if you want to preallocate the virtual disk >4GB in size.

Also note that your maximum size for a virtual disk with split files on FAT32 is 128 GB (actually a bit below that) as otherwise the extent sizes will be over 4GB in size and that -again- will cause problems.

edit: Also make sure that you have the latest drivers for your samsung SSD. While this is not an NVMe disk from the looks of it, there was a thread here recently that solved freezing problems by upgrading to the latest drivers for a Samsung SSD. ESXi 4.1 2TB Limit and Missing VMFS Partition - Both Main Volume and Snapshot got killed

$

Hello!

Looking for some assistance here. Brief environment rundown:

2 ESXi 4.1 Hosts

1 ESX 4.1 Host

1 EqualLogic iSCSI SAN

Mutiple Datastores, one of which (Datastore02) is now broken (which contains 2 VMDKs for a production Exchange Server)

No backup (<sigh>, I know)

Without realizing what I was doing, I extended the SAN volume for Datastore02 from 2 TB to 2.2 TB. It all started going wrong after that. Rescan caused the available space to expand, but I was unable to grow Datastore02 to use the extra space due to an error. Realized that there is a 2 TB limit. Tried to shrink, SAN GUI won't allow shrink. Tried to move around VMDKs from space-constrained Datastore02, couldn't move files. Tried vMotioning guests back and forth, as well as restarting Hosts. Datastore02 is now inactive and VM is inaccessible. SAN prompted for snapshot before I expanded to 2.2 TB, which I did, but the snapshot is displaying the same symptoms now: After presenting the LUN and trying to Add Storage in vSphere, ESXi sees the 2 TB as free space, rather than having a VMFS partition (well, there's a 15 MB VMFS partition, but that's not enough), and it wants to format the free space.

From a few tools I've used, it seems that the VMDK files are still in there, but neither ESXi 4.1 nor ESXi 5.1 (that I just installed) can see anything but free space in the LUN.

Any questions or suggestions are appreciated. Actually, I didn't start this post by using the word "urgent", but as you may have guessed it's pretty urgent. Anything at all (tips, tools, etc) is greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

James

This was so helpful!!!  I was about to download and setup a new appliance as I was coming up short finding a command to fix this issue. Mine was also after a power failure where we ran out of battery runtime.  To bad Vmware can make it heal itself in such a situation.

Since your VCP5 expired, you now have to take a required training class.

Re: Environment Variables are set after UEM processes it's conditions

Thank you for finding this bug... Not sure yet how we will address this in the product, but we'll definitely pick this up in a future release.

The Startup folder is its own separate entity w.r.t. folder redirection (even though it's a sub folder of the programs menu). When it comes to UEM's shortcut creation, any sub folder you entered in the Programs folder text field will just be appended to the effective location of the programs menu folder.

If the programs menu is redirected, we'll create your startup shortcut in <redirectedlocation>\Programs\Startup. But unless you also redirected your Startup folder (using GPO, as UEM does not support that) to that particular folder, Windows will look in the original %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup location...

For now, my suggestion would be to add a value under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce.

Thanks again, and apologies for the issue.

is there any vsphere\vstore API's to use NFC protocol for file copy\transfer?
