I am unable to run any form of 3D acceleration with VMware on Ubuntu 13.04 (I had this same issue with 12.10). I am using a nvidia GTX 520, and have the "nvidia-current" which is driver package 304 installed.
I have come to the conclusion that this is because I am using RealVNC to initiate a display so I can start VMware on. When I do this, the glxinfo output differs greatly, and when opening vmware on display : 0 I can use 3D Accleration.

I am not sure if any of this is useful to the problem, but, I can't pinpoint why it is bringing this up, when my card supports 1.4:

When I login via a physical display, it finds everything to do with the graphics card and OpenGL. So I guess is there a way to pass through OpenGL to a VNC display?
