Okay there seems to be a communication problem here! The question I asked and do not believe it's been answered is... Have you tried using Virtual Machine > Send Key > Cap Lock which under normal circumstances toggles the state of the caps lock key?
Or since the VM is at that screen and has been for however long, have you tried reseting it meaning a force reboot or an ssh login and reboot?
As to backing up Virtual Machines go you could reread what I said in Re: How to start up in safe boot or safe mode INSIDE a virtual machine? and the bottom like is "It is a known fact that Time Machine is not 100% reliable backing up/restoring Virtual Machines under all circumstances/conditions." so any VM backed up by TM is IMO not backed up!
