Yes, it is plugged in directly to the physical server. I have the USB devices added to the VM via edit settings, and the guest OS (2008r2) can see them properly.

sflanders -- thanks for the tip -- I downloaded the full InstallAdmin Guide and see it now on pg 16. I did indeed use the shorter/easier Getting Started Guide -- that's why I didn't see it. doh.
